Bienvenue chez Marie de Marie in May ! - Debongout

Welcome to Marie de Marie in May!

This week, we visit the charming Marie (better known as Marieinmay on Instagram) who welcomes us to her beautiful Parisian apartment. A passion for decoration and photography that can be felt as soon as you enter this little haven of peace, where the nuggets she unearths are perfectly showcased. What we love while slaloming through the different rooms at Chez Marie is the layout of the spaces and the small details that are always taken care of. Everything is well thought out for a warm interior as desired. A short detour to his daughter's bedroom, Jeanne, which perfectly reflects the rest of the apartment. Are we showing you?

Mary, can you introduce yourself?

My name is Marie, I work in marketing and we are in our Montmartrois apartment of 60 square meters, in which I live with my husband Vincent and my 3 year old daughter Jeanne.

What were your first desires for your interior?

My first desire for this interior was a dark blue wall and a sofa of the same color to put in front, in the living room! I dreamed of it! Well, I had to convince my husband but I think that in the end, he is very happy with the result! The main rooms being in fairly good condition, we especially repainted everything in order to highlight the beautiful moldings and the beautiful old parquet floor . On the other hand, the bathroom was completely broken and we improved the kitchen based on the existing one for a nice result at a lower cost.

How did you furnish/accessorize it?

It's a mix of new and old. We don't have a lot of surface area so we have little furniture and they were all thought out with precision: everything had to fit in and we still had to have a little space to move around! For example, in the living room which is very narrow, we have a long and narrow coffee table and a TV cabinet in the same vein. We had to take a 140x200 bed in our room, otherwise we couldn't put a bedside table or even walk around the sides! And these are just a few examples.

Which room do you spend the most time in?

My living room without hesitation: we took some time to try out the sofas and armchairs to make them as comfortable as possible and I have trouble getting up from the sofa now! I also really like the view it gives of our lovely Prussian fireplace.

What is your favorite piece of furniture?

I would say my dining room table or my sofa! My table because it has the perfect size and patina and my sofa because, in addition to being very beautiful, it is really very comfortable.

What place does the flea market / the second hand take in your decoration?

I would say that half of the furniture and decoration are second-hand second-hand products. I really like taking the time to find the right piece and I love spending time at flea markets or flea markets.

What is the find you are most proud of?

I confess that I am very proud of my first edition Series 7 chair by Arne Jacobsen unearthed in Saint-Ouen, but I could say the same thing about my sun mirror, found in the same place, or my collection of mismatched plates!

Where do you find your inspirations?

I generally find my inspirations in decoration magazines, on Pinterest or on Instagram mainly! I also really like going to the Puces de Saint-Ouen at the weekend, which I find very inspiring.

How did you come up with the idea of creating the Marie in May account?

The idea came to me in 2013 because I really liked photography and my account started to take off in 2015. It changed slightly in 2019 following the birth of my daughter Jeanne: I now share little bits of my Parisian life punctuated by decoration, my favorites, a bit of Paris and flowers. This account is more for aesthetic purposes than educational or informative: being a lover of beautiful things, and having a little fear of giving myself in front of more than 20,000 people, it remains quite light!

What is your favorite piece from Debongout?

I had a huge crush on your collaboration with Les Pensionnaires: this speculoos-coloured bed set is marvelous! But I also confess to adore your mottled mirrors.

What is good taste for you?

I don't know if there is a good taste or not, I would say above all that it is only your personal taste that counts and who will be the good one! Personally, my taste is more for minimalism with sure values , out of trends and therefore timeless!
