Alfred the wooden pedestal table finds its place in all rooms of the house. At the end of a sofa in the living room, in the corner of a bedroom or in an entrance hall… We love the simplicity of its shape and its large wooden top which make it a unique piece. Note some flaws that testify to its former life.
A little history of the pedestal
Since the 16th century BC, the pedestal table has been part of classic furniture. It will then disappear from interiors for more than 3000 years to reappear in France in the 17th century and impose itself almost definitively under Louis XVI. It is accepted today that the word “pedestal table” would have been brought back from Africa by the people of Provence without it being possible to determine at the outset whether it designates a person or a piece of furniture. Subsequently, we will call “pedestal table” the ballet character positioned alone in the middle of a group of dancers and responsible for holding a lit torch. This is what gave this name to this small round piece of furniture and its central base which is present today in many interiors.
